Enrolling a child in Marrakech means two decisions in a row: choosing the school system - French, Moroccan private, public, international, and building a file that is often requested months in advance, with documents to translate.

The main options in Marrakech

French schools

Accredited by the French Ministry of Education: in Marrakech, the Victor-Hugo, Auguste-Renoir school complex (AEFE) and the Jacques-Majorelle school (Mission laïque française). Places are in high demand and applications open early in the year.

Moroccan private schools

Moroccan curriculum, often bilingual Arabic-French, sometimes with an English stream. A wide offer in Marrakech, with very variable standards and fees.

Moroccan public schools

Free, allocated by home address, taught in Arabic with French as a second language.

International schools

English-language or other international curricula, for families in transit or on assignment.

When to start

For a September start, applications to French schools and to the better private schools are handled months in advance, often from the beginning of the calendar year. Arriving in August with an empty file means the waiting list. If you are moving from abroad, this is the step to start first, even before the housing search.

The documents usually requested

  • the child's birth certificate, often recent;
  • school reports and records from the previous school;
  • the leaving certificate, the one everyone forgets;
  • parents' and child's identity documents and photos;
  • proof of address in Marrakech;
  • vaccination record or a medical certificate;
  • depending on the school, a placement test or an interview.

Foreign documents frequently have to be translated by a sworn translator. Start early: a translation ordered the day before submission costs places.

A realistic shortlist for your child, appointments booked, the file prepared and submitted, and follow-up until the school answers.

We promise no place. Admission is entirely the school's decision. What we ensure is a complete file, submitted at the right time, to schools that are realistic for your situation.

The school often decides the district you should live in, not the other way round. Next step: finding a home in Marrakech.

FAQ

How do I enrol my child in a French school in Marrakech?

By contacting the school months before the September start, often from the beginning of the calendar year, with the child's school records, birth certificate, leaving certificate from the previous school and the parents' documents. Places are limited and admission is the school's decision.

Which documents are needed for school enrolment in Marrakech?

Generally the child's birth certificate, school reports and records, the leaving certificate, identity documents and photos, proof of address, a vaccination record, and sometimes a placement test. Foreign documents often need a sworn translation.

When should I apply for a September start?

As early as possible. For French schools and the better private schools, files are processed months ahead. If you are relocating, start the school search before the housing search.

Can my child attend a Moroccan public school?

Yes, public schooling is free and allocation normally depends on your home address. Teaching is in Arabic with French as a second language, which is worth weighing against your child's previous curriculum.

Can you guarantee a place?

No. Admission rests entirely with the school, its capacity and its criteria. We prepare a complete file, submitted on time, to schools that are realistic for your situation.
